Come join Spencer Vanderheide as he leads us through an entertaining, inclusive, and exciting presentation on the ministry of Young Life, both in Grandville, Michigan and around the world. Hear stories from some of our own students who attend Young Life weekly.
The Belhar Confession
Dr. Jim De Jong
This summer Synod will decide whether to adopt The Belhar Confession as a 4th confession along with the Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession and Canons of Dordt. This possibility has been greatly debated throughout the denomination for years. The Council of Ivanrest Chruch has invited Dr. Jim De Jong, retired president of Calvin Seminary, to introduce the Belhar Confession to us and help us discern both the advantages and the reservations that come with its possible adoption.
"Our Sabbatical Journey Together"
This summer Pastor Tony will be gone on sabbatical and we have the opportunity to journey and grow together through this sabbatical experience. Pastor Tony will be sharing the purpose and the plan of his time studying as well as how this opportunity is intended to shape and grow him as a pastor and the individuals and community of Ivanrest Church as well. Do you realize that Ivanrest Church has played an integral part in planting a new church? We want you to hear the story of how it began, what is happening and what we all can do to continue to support this vibrant congregation. Alex and Elizabeth Sun Thang, Jordan, Desmond and others will share the story of how this came to be and all the amazing things that God is doing in their church which meets at Princeton CRC every Sunday afternoon. "10 Things I'd Like to Teach My Spiritual Children"
Jesus' open question is all-important: 'When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?' (Luke 18:8). Each generation of our Lord's disciples must hear his question afresh and seek to answer it carefully. In this sectional we shall discuss together what faithful disciple-making today involves among the children our Lord entrusts to our guidance and care.
"Discerning Directions for Ivanrest Church"
This past year has been a transition time for Ivanrest Church. The Council wisely utilized this opportunity to step back and evaluate the values and priorities of our community and adjust the structure of our staffing accordingly. In this time together, leadership will share how God has brought the work of the Next Chapter Team, the Staff Formation Team, and many others together to discern a roadmap for health in our church family.
"Signs that a Congregation is Doing Pretty Well"

How do we know that a congregation is in pretty good shape? What are the signs? this session explored five indicators that a congregation is on the right track. These indicators will be cause for gratitude as Ivanrest thinks about its ministry. They will also help Ivanrest as it seeks to be the best it can be.
"How to Listen to a Sermon"

What makes a sermon a good sermon? What are we listening for in a sermon? How do we know that a sermon has worked? What is the listener's role in a good sermon? This session is intended to help people become better hearers and doers of the Word.
In early December, Jeff Kladder, a member of Ivanrest and 2004 CCHS graduate, returned home following a two year Peace Corps experience in Vanuatu, a nation of islands in the South Pacific. Jeff will share his experience with us including insights into community development, mission, and what the name "Christian" carries with it.

It has been a busy summer on the world-wide scene. Disasters have struck, tyrants have fallen and politicians have clashed. Why should Christians care what is happening far away from us? What does it matter? Larry Klein returns to help us ask good questions and look for good answers as Reformed believers about what is going on in Israel, Palestine, the UN, Libya, Yemen and the United States. This session is sure to get your mind thinking and healthy conversation going.
